2016 Rewind

With 2016 being slated as the worst year in the history of time, this is a unique moment of time to reflect on. Of course there are plenty of other historically crap years arguably worse. But, between the conflict in Syria, the Refugee Crisis, ISIS, terror attacks, Brexit, Trump, the Zika virus, police shootings, and what seems like an endless stream of loss and sorrow, 2016 is at least on the shortlist of crap time. 2016 has certainly left me hoping that 2017 will be a year of a million changes, fresh starts, and happiness. Putting the gloom behind me,…

Gradually, then Suddenly. May 2016.

As long as April felt, May turned the tables a fluttered by… at least that’s what I’m assuming as I have very little memory of this time. While writing down the month that passed I had to check the calendar again to be sure that really was May that was already out the door. Not 100% sure I wasn’t drugged and missed part of that?! Also summer arrived. GRACE   With two new employees starting this month I’ve been on a roller coaster of emotion. Both of them are great, but it’s fairly overwhelming to try to teach a million…

Work work work work… April 2016

Work

April 2016 April has possibly felt like the longest month in the history of time and space. In March big changes at work were underway, and in April those changes were finalized. Flash back a few years when Laine applied as an administrative assistant, and Grace hired her. Over two years have since passed and we’ve worked directly together in administration. Now Laine will be taking a new job in the marketing department, and the change is bitter sweet, but mostly really exciting! The change was made more thrilling by the fact that Laine was offered the job before the…

Looking Forward… March 2016

For us, March was a month that will quickly fade into the background and quite possibly be forgotten altogether. With spring on the horizon we’re looking forward to changes and making space for future plans. It seems as though March was the month looking forward. Grace: This month I booked a summer trip to the Balkans with my friend from work. I’m also going to be tacking on a few days at the beginning and end to dip my toe in the solo travel waters. Solo travel is something I hear a lot of good things about, but having…

In the Bleak Midwinter… February 2016

February brought changes at work as we saw our 3 person department  become 2. Our friend and work mate left us for a 2 week trip to Brazil before heading to China for a 1 year teaching contract. While some coworkers begged him to stay, we urged him to keep the adventures alive and live his own smog-filled dreams. In true February in Maryland fashion much of the month was spent under grey skies and navigating treacherously icy roads. Grace: I kicked off the month with a girls weekend in Panama City, Florida. Though the Florida weather was in an…

The Month it Wintered… January 2016

It seems like every monthly recap has us stammering on about how quickly the month has flown by…until January that is. Enter the month where winter found us. All at once, basically in two days. January brought us a blizzard with waist high snow and severe cases of cabin fever. Usually you can do moderately quaint things like go for a walk in the snow, but the snowfall was so great that walking through it was nearly impossible. We were at the mercy of the snow plows and they aren’t exactly the most reliable people to have to depend on. The…

2015 Rewind

2015 rewind

To kick off 2016 we thought it would be fitting to do a quick recap of our highlights from the last year.   Grace: This past year has been unique. I’ve had a pretty strange mix of highs and lows and plan to use this next year to iron out some of the struggles. When you’re in school, each year has such a distinct beginning and end (with a nice long holiday thrown in), and one of the strangest things about the “real world” is that time just floats by with no distinctive markers. So, this new year will be my marker….

Pass the Wine / Gravy…November 2015

November has already drawn to an end, but the holiday season has just begun. dun dun dun.   Grace: Sometimes family have a way of asking quite personal and hard to answer questions. Recently I’ve found that even the simple questions are getting harder to truly answer. I don’t know how to reply to “how are you” when I’ve just ruined my coat with butter. Besides Thanksgiving this month has been all about Ed Sheeran, well for me at least. I’ve attempted to go to bed early but ended up watching 45 minute you tube concerts and behind the scenes…

Put the paper in the bin – October 2015

So much has happened in October that our last monthly recap seems like an incredibly long time ago. Grace traveled to South America, and Laine booked a last minute trip to Puerto Rico for November. October has brought us fall, which is something that we strongly disagree on. While Laine enjoys the cooler days and “sweater weather”, Grace is bitter about the pending doom of winter and finds the pumpkin spice everything maddening (it’s nutmeg people – move on!). We Halloweened pretty hard at work  – and our department of a whopping three people continued our tradition of a group costume. Unfortunately…

What does a Time Warp feel like? – September 2015

Hello there! This month has been a total blur. Grace is currently in Ocean City, MD co-running a pottery booth at a craft show, and Laine’s been running ragged between birthdays, weddings, and starting French classes. We’re pretty sure it isn’t even the end of September at all, because it makes more sense that we’ve fallen into a time warp. In October, Grace is heading off to South America for the first time, and Laine has more wedding fun and a trip to Morgantown, WV for the WVU homecoming game/ med school tail gate. Laine: Honestly, this month felt so short….
