About Us

Grace…

In 2011 I was a few years out of college and still trying to find my “real” job. Many late night hours on the internet led me to reading about ways to live abroad. I decided I wanted to teach English in Europe. As any timid adventurer does, I looked to my other friends with mediocre jobs, and convinced two of them to join in the journey. We bought one-way tickets to Madrid, and that’s where I perfected the art of winging it, discount travel, pretending to understand people speaking in other languages, and deciphering what type of meat is in the “mixto” packet at the grocery store. It’s also where I found I loved travelling. My trips abroad thus far have been a mix of unplanned wanderings based out of Spain, and trips with friends.

Laine…

I’ve always loved the idea of traveling the world. While I didn’t get a passport until I was 19, I’d spent my entire life immersing myself in books and reading about the history and politics of different places. This lead to an M.A. in European Studies, and a lot of student debt. Most of my trips abroad so far have been academic opportunities or family excursions largely planned and paid for by others. Time spent traveling to other countries was absolutely as fulfilling as I always imagined, and I spent my early twenties taking every opportunity I could to live in other places. From 2010-2012, I spent time in seven countries and moved to New York City for a year.

Budgeting for and planning leisure vacations is relatively new to me, and I hope to document my learning experiences here.

I currently live in the greater D.C. area, where my hobbies include reading, dancing around my apartment to pop music instead of cleaning, watching Yankee games, ardently defending the Oxford comma, and accidentally getting drunk on wine on Tuesdays.
